Congratulations go out to Kelis! Nas’ wifey was acquitted of disorderly conduct for a 2007 arrest where she had been accused of harassing two female police officers posing as prostitutes in Miami Beach, Fla.
Congratulations also go out to the winners at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards! Trophies went to Britney Spears (“Best Pop Video,” “Best Female Video” and “Video of the Year,” all for “Piece of Me”), Chris Brown (“Best Male Video” for “With You”), Pussycat Dolls (“Best Dancing in a Video” for “When I Grow Up”), Linkin Park (“Best Rock Video” for “Shadow of the Day”), Lil Wayne (“Best Hip-Hop Video” for “Lollipop”) and Tokio Hotel (“Best New Artist).
Congratulations are also sent to Rhythm & Blues Foundation “Pioneer Award” recipients Chaka Khan, Kool & the Gang, Bill Withers, The Whispers, The Funk Brothers, Donny Hathaway, Sugar Pie DeSanto, Al Bell and the Queen of Ivory Soul, Teena Marie.
Happy 25th anniversary to the ever-popular NOW compilation series. The UK version will celebrate with a three-disc set collecting a quarter century of hits from artists such as Queen to the Spice Girls to Katy Perry. (Will Estelle make an appearance? If not, at least her album has returned to the U.S. iTunes site after being removed a few weeks ago.)
Fall’s new music calendar is full of heavyweights, including Michelle Williams (Unexpected), Sarah McLachlan (Closer: The Best of Sarah McLachlan) and Avant in October; Beyoncé in November; and Queen Latifah in December.

Stevie Wonder will join the elite list of honorees chosen by the Library of Congress to receive its Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Other notable past winners include Paul Simon. T-Pain garnered a respectable trophy himself at the BMI Urban Awards: "Songwriter of the Year." Winning a prize of a different sort is Ne-Yo. The singer/songwriter, whose Year of the Gentleman album hits stores next week, successfully won a lawsuit against a tour promoter who relieved him of opening act duties on a 2007 tour with R. Kelly. The settlement is reported to be more than $700,000.
Drama! Expect to see Akon in court soon over that fan-throwing incident from last year, but dance floor aficionados can now catch DJ Grooverider on the ones and twos. The English turntablist was arrested in Dubai in November and served just 10 months of his four-year sentence for possession of drugs and pornographic material. Robin Thicke had some choice words about VIBE magazine, saying the publication told him it didn’t put whites on the cover when he inquired about the coveted position. Danyel Smith, editor in chief, has invited Thicke to talk about reverse racism in the magazine’s October issue, which instead features a naked Ciara on the cover.
C’s predecessor, Janet Jackson, starts her global jaunt this month with her Rock Witchu Tour. Jackson recently said she’s uncertain of her future with her label, Island Def Jam, as her album’s promotion has stalled and her initial sales were disappointing by her standards. LL Cool J will be the opening act on some dates.
Christina Aguilera, a late addition to the MTV Video Music Awards’ performance roster along with Kanye West, will release her greatest hits collection, Keeps Gettin’ Better, exclusively with Target stores in November. The set includes two new songs, the title track and “Dynamite,” as well as re-recorded versions of “Genie In a Bottle” and “Beautiful.” Soon after, Aguilera’s fellow former Mouseketeers, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, are said to be working on a dance track duet for Spears’ 2009 album. Meanwhile, in an effort to create awareness about HIV/AIDS, Judge Jules has signed on to be an ambassador with Dance4Life, an organization whose goal is to stop the spread of the diseases among people under 25.

American Idol will be adding a fourth opinion to its judicial ranks when songwriter Kara DioGuardi joins Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell for the eighth season of the show. At the mercy of another set of judges are Toni Braxton and *NSYNC’s Lance Bass, who will be participating on the seventh season of Dancing With the Stars.
Those looking to avoid TV can instead catch up on some reading. Don’t miss Sandra “Pepa” Denton’s book, Let’s Talk About Pep. The memoir will feature an intro by Queen Latifah and an epilogue by Missy Elliott. Other entertainment options include Boogie SuperStar, an EA video game playable on the Nintendo Wii system. Natasha Bedingfield is the “official face” of the game, and three of her singles, along with some from Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Fall Out Boy, can be performed on the game.
John Legend debuted his new single, “If You’re Out There,” at the Democratic National Convention. The song will appear on his forthcoming Evolver album. Meanwhile, George Michael will apparently record a new holiday single for Christmas.

The 2008 MTV Video Music Awards finally got some girl power. Joining the fraternity of Kid Rock, Lil Wayne and the Jonas Brothers, expect to see Rihanna and Pink (whose new single “So What” will appear on Funhouse, set for an October release), as well as rapper T.I. and rock outfit Paramore.
Joining the ranks of motherhood is Spice Girl Mel C., who announced she was pregnant and will become the final member of the group to become a mama. Perhaps she can borrow clothes from Gwen Stefani, who recently gave birth to her second child with former Bush frontman, Gavin Rossdale.
Joining the ranks of the unemployed is former vocalist for Shiny Toy Guns, Carah Faye Charnow, who was reportedly ousted from the group and replaced by Sisley Treasure.
Longing for another multi-star power ballad? Look no further than “Stand Up,” a track that will be available on Sept. 2 on iTunes. Contributing to the cut, whose proceeds go to the Stand Up Against Cancer charity, is the eclectic lineup that includes Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Fergie, Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Melissa Etheridge, Ashanti, Natasha Bedingfield, Keyshia Cole, Ciara, Leona Lewis, LeAnn Rimes and Carrie Underwood. Look for all of the ladies to perform together during a multi-network fundraiser that will air on Sept. 5.
If you’re ready for some holiday music, Aretha Franklin is scheduled to drop This Christmas Aretha in the very near future. The Shapeshifters are also going to release their remixes and inspirations on a three-disc set for the popular In the House compilation series.
(Pssst … we also heard that Kelly Rowland mentioned that Destiny’s Child may be reuniting AND recording together in 2009.)
Got any plans for Sept. 12-14? Head to New York for Minitek, an event that will “explore innovation not only in respect to [electronic] music, but also to other forms of art, design and technology.” There will be plenty of parties and plenty of DJs spinning during this three-day event.

Britney Spears has had her share of tabloid drama over the last few years, but the sun is shining through the proverbial clouds for the pop star. She’s currently working on her next album, set for release in 2009, and the urban-infused collection has been described by Spears as her “best work yet.” She also was the cover feature for this week’s OK! magazine.
Some sad news in the music world. Last week, soul legend Isaac Hayes died, apparently because of a stroke, as did music journalists and producer Jerry Wexler, who is credited with coining the term “rhythm and blues” and produced classic records with high-profile artists such as Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles.
Master P (now known as P. Miller) will launch his new TV network in 2009, Better Black Television. BBTV is set to compete directly with Black Entertainment Television (BET) in the markets where it is added to cable and satellite offerings.
Spanish-pop group RBD announced that they will break up after a four-year stint as a band, though it is not known where the superstar roster will make its last public performance.
John Legend’s “Green Light” (which features Andre 3000) has received the remix treatment by MSTRKRFT. Fans can visit MSTRKRFT’s MySpace page to hear the track. Legend’s next album, Evolver, is set for release in October.

What's New
The Latest Must-Haves, Must-Sees and Must-Reads
As the group whose beginnings are based in acid jazz with a heavy influence of funk, categorizing Incognito may seem simple, but the group has also released a number of remix albums, diversifying their repertoire into electronica. The fusion of all the genres is present in the quartet’s latest effort, Tales From the Beach. The percussion-driven set opener “Step Aside” features a chorus of empowerment, as the female lead singer questions the double standards of her relationship. “I’ve Been Waiting” follows the melodical road map of Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day” before taking a detour with vocals in the style of (yet smoother than) Jamiroquai. “Love, Joy, Understanding” is a “dance-lite” track full of blaring brass that serves as a natural accompaniment to Incognito’s interpretation of laid-back house music. The album is great for fans and those looking to stretch their appreciation for jazz, R&B and dance.

Like a little humor with your house music? Check out Chuck Love’s new single, “People Clappin’ (Change Is Comin’),” on which Love has remixed a sermon by the political lightning rod Rev. Jeremiah Wright over a hard bass line on this whimsical track. This song is sure to be a big club hit in the coming months.
The theme of the latest issue of VIBE magazine is The Real Rap Issue, with features on the game’s best verses, MCs and an entire article dedicated to 1988: the smorgasbord year of rap music that featured heavy hitters such as Public Enemy, MC Lyte and KRS-One. Young Jeezy also has a feature and, for the first time, is the magazine’s cover boy.

The only person giving New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez a run for his money in the tabloids these days is, coincidentally, Madonna, whose brother will release his memoir of the pop star this week. (Oh, and in case you haven’t heard, Rodriguez and Madge have been rumored to be romantically involved, with his wife recently filing for divorce and Madonna’s marriage with Guy Ritchie receiving some serious public scrutiny, despite denials of their intentions to divorce and any involvement with Rodriguez.)
Strangely, it’s Britney Spears to the rescue, as she’ll be recording footage for Madonna’s upcoming Sticky & Sweet Tour. Spears will reportedly be caged in an elevator, thrashing around before delivering 2007’s best yet most overused catchphrase, “It’s Britney, bitch!”
Rumors are also circulating that Spears may join Madonna on some of the dates, but if so, could the shows possibly feature some new material from the album she’s working on with Rodney Jerkins? The new material is said to be very aggressive and uptempo. Also on the new album front, with all discs set to released this year or next, are efforts from Grace Jones, Robin Thicke and Portishead.
Akon will also be releasing his third disc, possibly featuring a recently leaked single with Michael Jackson. In an effort to revive his career, Jackson has reportedly been in talks with collaborating with New Kids on the Block, who themselves are collaborating with New Edition (minus Bobby Brown?) for a song on their forthcoming release.
Speaking of forthcoming releases, Quantum of Solace, the next James Bond flick, has had more contenders for its theme song than we care to remember. Latest news indicates that Duran Duran, who recorded a track for A View to Kill in the ’80s, have thrown their hat into the ring, but word is circulating that Alicia Keys’ song with Mark Ronson has actually been chosen for the film’s score.
Shakira has chosen a recording, touring and merchandising deal with Live Nation, though it hasn’t yet been revealed if it is similar to those of the aforementioned Madonna and Jay-Z. It is, however, worth millions of dollars. Though not worth money, but highly honorable, are the accolades for Paula Abdul and Kylie Minogue, who were awarded a lifetime achievement award from the Tremaine Dance company and recognition as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to music and the entertainment industry, respectively.
Awarded a second chance is Teairra Marí, who signed to Def Jam records at the same time as Rihanna, but was dropped from the label soon after hitting the scene with her single “Make Her Feel Good.” Along with a new single titled “No, No, No,” Marí has a new deal with Interscope Records, a spokesmodel deal with Love’s Jeans and a role in an upcoming film called Doorman.
And finally, out at Residentadvisor.net are former editor in chief Tami Fenwick and former reviews editor Jeremy Armitage, who resigned from the site, citing a very thin line between the advertising and editorial departments.

Janet Jackson wants to join the ranks of several other rockstars by starting her own clothing line. Word has it some of this new line will include wardrobe-malfunction-optional lingerie. Ciara is also in talks to add her name to a line of women’s clothing that will be available at Steve & Barry’s, and recently signed a modeling contract with Wilhelmina.
India.Arie will make her Broadway debut In September, appearing In the Whoopi Goldberg-produced For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf. Phil Collins has expressed an interest in writing a Broadway musical, though he is not interested in using his old material for the project. The Chemical Brothers, however, are embracing their older material, along with a few rarities and new songs, for an upcoming greatest hits compilation titled Brotherhood.
The family of American Idol contestants will grow this summer as the cities and dates for this year’s auditions have been announced. Future tryouts will be held in San Francisco (July 17), Louisville, Ken. (July 21), Phoenix (July 25), Salt Lake City (July 29), San Juan, Puerto Rico (Aug. 2), Kansas City, Mo. (Aug. 8), Jacksonville, Fla. (Aug. 13) and East Rutherford, N.J. (Aug. 19). In other Idol news, Blake Lewis has been dropped by his label, Arista, and Ruben Studdard got married this weekend.

Swedish songstress Robyn will escalate her popularity opening for Madonna during the Material Girl’s tour dates in Europe. The rumors of Janet Jackson joining Madonna on a few U.S. shows appear to be false, but Ms. Jackson has apparently been tapped by MTV to host a reality show where she mentors up-and-coming wannabe superstars.
While the Gorillaz recently released a “documentary” about the group’s origin called Bananz, Duffy is now being considered to sing the theme to the next James Bond flick, putting her in contention with other potentially named theme singers Beyoncé, Leona Lewis and Amy Winehouse.
For our viewing pleasure, Soul Train could possibly be coming to DVD. The 38-year-old show recently had its rights bought by MadVision Entertainment. Former Soul Train performer Lionel Richie has promised that the Commodores will reunite within the next two years.

Fourteen counts, two words: “not guilty.” That’s what R. Kelly heard on Friday when he was acquitted in his child pornography trial, in which he was accused of videotaping sexual acts between himself and girl who prosecutors said was as young as 13 in the video. Now free of the charges, Kelly should have plenty of creative ammo for forthcoming chapters of the Trapped in the Closet saga. (Avoid pulling an Ashanti, though, who caused plenty of drama with her video and accompanying Web site for “The Way That I Love You,” which depicts the songstress murdering her cheating boyfriend. The clip was met with protests last week in L.A.)

After airing her frustration with the label for not promoting her album, Discipline, Jackson has cancelled the European leg of her Rock Witchu Tour, saying she’s unable to make the trek due to the poor promotion and, basically, a lack of funds. Though Jackson’s issues are now well-known, that didn’t stop Amerie from flocking to IDJ after terminating her deal with Columbia Records. Amerie’s last album, Because I Love It, was released internationally last year, but it’s not known if the effort will be her label debut.
Debuting at the age of 50 is Prince. His Purpleness reportedly held a low-key birthday celebration, the type not expected from a man who sang about “partying like it’s 1999,” but surely redeems himself with a forthcoming book called 21 Nights, a pictorial chronicling concert performances from last summer.
Speculation continues as to whether or not Michael Jackson (who, along with Madonna ― whose brother is apparently writing a tell-all book on the Material Girl ― will also turn 50 this year) will become a Vegas headliner, though its far more likely than Diddy (excuse please, Puff Daddy) picking an identity. But Jacko is apparently interested in following some of Mr. Combs ambitions and wants to add clothing designer to his résumé. The King of Pop has supposedly been in talks with Ed Hardy and Christian Audigier regarding the endeavor.
While Aretha Franklin is set to headline the Newport Jazz Festival in August, Natasha Bedingfield will take on opening act chores for the recently reunited New Kids on the Block, whose tour begins in September. Don’t expect any further performances from Portishead this calendar year or George Michael ever (at least in arenas), as the former Wham! frontman says he’s through after his current tour wraps up. Do, however, expect performances from Rihanna, Ne-Yo and Jennifer Hudson at next week’s BET Awards. The trio will join (Mashonda and Swizz Beatz homewrecker?) And Britney Spears’ producers from How I Met Your Mother are campaigning for the pop princess to get an Emmy for her appearance on the show. A win there could make up for her cameo being cut from Pussycat Dolls’ latest video, “When I Grow Up.”
In “white boys who love hip-hop” news, Everlast is set to make a return in September with Love, War and the Ghost of Whitey Ford; Scott Storch is in it deep for not paying child support; Mark Wahlberg says, “No f*cking way” to a reunion of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch in light of his brother, Donnie’s, recent regrouping with NKOTB; and Eminem is apparently in the studio, announcing this during a prank call to LL Cool J on a radio show. (Maybe Peter Buffett should be included here, too. He is, after all, collaborating with Akon.)

Be on the lookout for Pretty Ricky’s next effort, ’80s Babies, in August. Along with new music, fans will meet new member 4Play, a replacement for Pleasure P, who parted ways with the group last year and has a solo effort in the works with collaborators such as Ne-Yo. Fatboy Slim also has a new project called Brighton Port Authority, a fictional group whose word-of-mouth “following” lasted (and was likely influenced by) the 1970s up to the 1990s.

Jackson was recently asked what her next single would be and revealed that the label did not appear to have any further interest in the project, which, it’s interesting to note, is one of the reasons why she left Virgin a few years ago after she claimed that label failed to promote 2004’s Damita Jo and 2006’s 20 Y.O.
Experiencing the complete opposite are: Solange, whose new single “I Decided” is starting to impact radio; Nikka Costa, who will make a long-awaited return with her album Pebble to a Pearl, which is slated for release in September; UNKLE, who is in the studio, collaborating with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, White Denim and Black Mountain; Marc Anthony, who is preparing three separate solo albums for release before year’s end; Girl Talk, whose new 55-minute mix will be available on his Web site before being released in hard-copy format; David Archuleta, who just signed with American Idol rival David Cook’s label, 19 Records; Hayden Panettiere, whose single “Wake Up Call” will be featured in ads for Candies clothing as well as on her debut album scheduled for release later this year; Britney Spears, who will be in London directing and filming her video for her next single, “Radar,” as well as making a brief cameo in the Pussycat Dolls’ video for “When I Grow Up”; and T-Pain, whose newly active digital label announced several new acts, projects and releases.
A track featuring Kylie Minogue was apparently classified as “too sexy” for Coldplay’s recent release, Viva La Vida, and was snubbed from the set, though the track is scheduled to be included on the group’s next LP set for 2009. Mel B. is set to star in a Broadway version of Legally Blonde and will debut her new clothing line in an upcoming season of Project Runway. Readers can complement Mel B.’s fashions with new fragrances courtesy of Avril Lavigne, who is working with Procter and Gamble to create the scents.

Remember how the owner of the Las Vegas Hilton bailed Michael Jackson out of losing his Neverland Ranch? Apparently a promoter is saying the King of Pop isn’t capable of performing any shows as repayment in a Sin City stage show ― or anywhere, stating that MJ is “incapable of keeping promises” and that a long-term commitment from the superstar is downright impossible. Not convinced? Consider this: Jackson was supposed to perform at the season finale of American Idol, but apparently backed out the day before the show for fear of being hated by viewers. (He must have forgotten how fans tend to faint at his concerts.)
Ah well, we can’t wait that long for a concert. Fortunately, Live Nation is in talks with Miami suburb Fort Lauderdale for a multi-day music festival full of top headliners. Perhaps that will serve as some solace for the Magic City, who is experiencing some new competition to its Winter Music Conference. This weekend marked the inaugural International Music Summit, which took place in Ibiza, and features the parties, workshops and top talent that the WMC is known for.
Amy Winehouse made her first post-rehab appearance in Portugal, but perhaps she should have pulled an MJ. Fans didn’t appreciate the “Rehab” crooner taking to the stage late before giving an underwhelming 55-minute performance, sans an encore. (Let’s hope she’s not wondering why Beyoncé is now being considered to sing the theme for the next James Bond flick. B tends to have a little trait known as consistency.) No longer able to perform a basic set is Toni Braxton, whose Las Vegas show at the Flamingo slated to end in August has been cut short due to the singer experiencing health problems. The multi-act event will have a rotating, somewhat regional set of superstar acts, which in the past has included the likes of Chayanne and Alejandro Fernández. Meanwhile, several Latin artists are collaborating on a new viral video called “Yes We Can,” and ode in support of U.S. Presidential Candidate Barack Obama. Contributors include Paulina Rubio, Alejandro Sanz and Yerba Buena.

Though En Vogue, Ace of Base and Deborah Cox received the votes (poor JC Chasez), one of the potential candidates, Cathy Dennis, seems to not be heeding the advice of site visitors. The singer/songwriter has formed an all-girl band called Sexcassettes, that she says will allow her to do music that she can’t write for other artists. Dennis is responsible for writing Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” and Britney Spears’ “Toxic.”

The wait is over. Oscar winner and American Idol alumna Jennifer Hudson will release her debut album in September, with guest appearances and contributions from the likes of Timbaland, Robin Thicke, Diane Warren, etc. Ne-Yo penned the set’s debut single, “Spotlight,” which is set to hit radio stations next week.
Can’t wait until September? Well, in July Miley Cyrus will release Breakout, the teen queen’s first foray into non-Hannah Montana music. The first single, “7 Things,” recently hit radio and is quickly becoming one of the most added songs. Also putting out an album is five-time BET Award nominee T-Pain. His September release is called Thr33 Ringz with the lead single, “Snap Yo Fingers,” expected to hit radio next month. The song features a guest appearance by rapper Lil Wayne.
The recently reunited The Time is will be holding court at the Flamingo Las Vegas from June 24 to August 2. In Case You Haven't Heard ...
A Quick Serving of News and Gossip from the Music Biz
First, it was Jay-Z and Beyoncé. Then, it was Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon. Now, add Ashlee Simpson and Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz to the list of rock ’n‘ roll couples, as the expectant parents tied the not on Saturday in San Diego. (Perhaps Jay and B, and Mimi and Nick should be added to the list of expectant parents, as rumors are circulating that Ms. Knowles and Ms. Carey are both pregnant … and that Nick is a gold digger … and that Mariah knew she would marry him within five minutes of meeting him. Is anyone else as confused as That’s My Jam is by the “Nick Carey” pairing?) Good luck to the newlyweds. Hopefully their relationships lasts longer than Shania Twain’s, whose marriage to producer Robert “Mutt” Lange is coming to an end after 14 years for undisclosed reasons.
Back to baby news, T.I. and Xscape’s Tameka “Tiny” Cottle welcomed their second child together on Friday, whose name is Major Harris. Madonna, who has been in the process of trying to adopt David Banda from Malawi, has apparently been given the OK to do so by the child’s father and the country’s Human Rights Consultative Committee. Additionally, she’s produced a documentary called I Am Because We Are, which showcases citizens’ ability to find hope and happiness despite the country being hard hit by the AIDS epidemic. (She’s also had an “Oprah” moment and is reportedly planning to open a school in Malawi, kind of like how Winfrey did in South Africa.)
Madge recently announced dates for her Sticky & Sweet Tour. Word has it that Janet Jackson will be joining her on a few dates of the jaunt, though if it happens, it’s not known how the headlining duties would be divvied up. Jackson is supposedly doing the same thing with Tina Turner.
Possibly taking to a different stage are the Bee Gees, as Robin Gibb announced plans to pack the group’s greatest hits into a musical à la ABBA’s Mamma Mia and the Bee Gees’ own Saturday Night Fever. Perhaps American Idol alum Taylor Hicks will be done with his upcoming run as Teen Angel in Grease and will be able to join the fun. (Speaking of Idol, it’s that time of year where America will crown its next champion. The battle between 17-year-old crooner David Archuleta and rocker David Cook takes place on Tuesday, with the winner ― Simon Cowell is apparently rooting for Cook ― announced on Wednesday.)
(Oh yeah, FOX execs are a little disappointed with Idol’s ratings this year, so the torturous one-hour results shows will be cut to 30 minutes in 2009.)
Around the same time, RuPaul will debut RuPaul’s Drag Race on the Logo network. In an idea that That’s My Jam had years ago (honest), RuPaul will host a six-episode reality show in which contestants compete to be the top drag queen, with the “Supermodel” singer serving as a mentor. Equally entertaining would be Michael Jackson, who recently received financial help in saving his Neverland Ranch from being sold. Apparently, though, the generous benefactor, Tom Barrack Jr., owns the Las Vegas Hilton. Since nothing in life is ever free, That’s My Jam would like to remind readers of those rumors from last year about the Jacksons or Michael himself headlining a show in Sin City. Coincidence this donor lent his hand? Well, if nothing else, Jackson can take pride in the fact his best-selling Thriller album has been added to the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry, an honor bestowed upon audio deemed “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.”
Back to reality, Soul II Soul’s Jazzie B was recently recognized as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, one of the country’s highest civil honors. (It’s a safe bet he’ll be exempt from consideration as a potential participant on VH1’s Celebrity Rehab, though Aaron Carter will be taking part in the train wreck’s next season. Taylor Dayne may also be eligible, too, based on her recent DUI arrest.) Fellow Brit Amy Winehouse will also be absent since, after being arrested for a crack “incident” that was caught on tape, authorities have chosen not to press any charges. Winehouse will now be free to pursue singing the theme for the next James Bond flick, as she’s been highly endorsed by the film’s star, Daniel Craig. Perhaps R. Kelly should get air time on Celebrity Rehab. Well, that depends on what the 12 recently selected jurors for his “is this ever going to happen?” trial have to say about his alleged actions with an underage girl that were caught on tape.
Being caught on CD is Ne-Yo, whose next album, Year of the Gentleman, has been postponed from June to August. Ciara is also working on her next project, Fantasy Ride, which will be divided into three separate sections to showcase her attempt at diversity. Sections include “Groove City” (the sexy stuff), “Crunktown” (that crunk & B we’ve all come to love) and “Kingdom of Dance” (upbeat records that allow her more “creative freedom”). New Kids on the Block, whose members are now all in their 30s, will also return to the studio for a reunion album and an accompanying tour. The group performed on the Today Show on Friday, debuting their new single, “Summertime,” to fans who camped out for two days just to see the boys (men?) perform.
And finally, That’s My Jam officially turned a year old on May 18. Thanks to all the supporters who have kept the momentum going and growing!

All five Spice Girls are getting back together for six live shows and a greatest hits album featuring new songs. The new material is said to be updated renditions of the traditional sound the group produced during their peak in popularity in the late ’90s.
Are wedding bells in store for Beyoncé and Jay-Z? Word has it that Jay popped the question when the two were attending the Cannes Film Festival and promised B “the biggest diamond she could fit on her finger” and that theirs would be the “hip-hop wedding to end all hip-hop weddings.” Love’s also influencing a collabo between Ashlee Simpson and Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz. The girlfriend and boyfriend are working on a song for her forthcoming album.
Perpetually busy Justin Timberlake will contribute production and vocals to the single “The Only Promise That Remains,” one of the tracks from Reba McEntire’s upcoming duets album. He’ll also be producing and contributing vocals to Duran Duran’s next album, which we’ll also be blessed with production work from Danjahandz and Timbaland. Additionally, Timberlake will be developing Emsée Denters, a Dutch singer who rose to popularity by covering Shakira and Beyoncé tunes on YouTube and was recently announced as the first act on his Tennman Records label.
Hi-Five’s Tony Thompson died last week of a drug overdose at the age of 31. The Waco, Texas native had recently reunited with the group, whose hits included “I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)” and “She’s Playing Hard To Get.” Thompson released his solo album Sexsational in 1995.
As if Paris Hilton didn’t have enough problems, her former record label, publishing company and songwriter/producer are being sued by UB40’s label for copyright infringement. UB40’s label says Hilton’s “The Stars Are Blind” takes samples from the group’s hit “Kingston Town.” Fortunately, since Hilton has been dropped by the Warner Bros. label, she is not being sued directly.
Also facing legal trouble is Akon. The singer was recorded picking up and throwing a teenage fan into the crowd at one of his shows after the minor had thrown something towards the stage. A crowd member, who said she received a concussion when the teenager landed on her, said she had hired a lawyer. The teenager has not pressed any charges and was not reported to have experienced any injuries.
Kylie Minogue will soon be releasing her next album, White Diamond, but songs are already being leaked online. Her label denies that as many as 10 songs had been released to create buzz for the upcoming project. DJ Z-Trip is buzzing about his next endeavor, as he’ll be producing the soundtrack to All-Pro Football 2K8, a new video game that will be released in July, featuring original songs, remixes and mash-ups.
